Working with children helps!

El Portal Imaging Center’s Registered Nurse, Kerry, brings calmness to patients during their time with her. She works closely with those who are coming in for more complex procedures that involve intravenous contrast such as a cardiac CTA and also image-guided biopsies and procedures.

Kerry fully explains procedures and answers any questions that her patients or their loved ones may have. As she listens to their specific concerns Kerry finds that even the most resistant of patients become more positive and at ease.

“My patients are grateful for our time together. They realize that they have someone to walk through the process with them rather than just being a number and handed a pamphlet to read on their own.” explains Kerry, “They often thank me and are most appreciative that I will be with them throughout their procedure.”

Although having a nurse on site is not a requirement for an imaging center it is considered best practice and the gold standard of excellence. Consequently, El Portal Imaging takes no short cuts in this area of patient safety and service. In her nursing role Kerry provides a vital link with the patient, the scanning technologist, and the radiologist physician performing the procedure.

Kerry previously worked at the well known Children’s Hospital Central California in Madera. Patients smile with relief when she explains how working with the little children helped her become an expert at starting I.V.s with the least amount of stress.

Kerry is an active member of the Association for Radiologic & Imaging Nursing, a national network committed to the development of nurses who advance the standard of care in the imaging environment. In turn, Kerry brings those advances in nursing care right here to El Portal Imaging Center in Merced---where excellence is our outcome.
